BLOG TAKEOVER: FESTIVAL STYLE WITH MERMAID WAVES

The unofficial start of the 2016 music festival season kicks off today at Coachella in Indio, California. With headliners like LCD Soundsystem, Guns ‘n Roses and Calvin Harris, the legendary event has options for every eclectic taste. But as any festival veteran knows, it’s about more than just the music. Finding the ideal outfits for hours under the bright sunshine is part of the fun. We checked in with style blogger Dani McGowan of Mermaid Waves who paired her favorite festival fashion with Skechers.

LOOK ONE:

I had to create a bohemian look for festival season.  Just because its bohemian doesn’t mean it has to be basic.  I took inspiration from my favorite fashion era, the seventies.  Adding some vintage glam to your bohemian look will make it anything but basic this season.  These Skechers Footsteps-Jagged Edge sandals have a cork wedge that complements a bohemian-inspired outfit.  They are the perfect festival shoe with a memory foam sole that you can dance in all day long, and a small wedge for the right amount of height.  I paired my sandals with an embroidered top and cargo shorts.  My favorite part of festival styling is piling on the accessories, for festivals ADD another accessory before you walk out the door.  A vintage scarf is a great way to look glam and also keep your hair in place.  Oversized sunnies are my eyewear of choice for every occasion.

LOOK TWO:

This look is a tribute to the ultimate girl gang–the Spice Girls.  What better way to celebrate music than taking inspiration from some of your favorite ladies?! I paired a simple striped dress with my Skechers Breeze Low – Moon and Stars sandals.  I am so attached to these sandals, I wear them to the ballet studio, to school, to the spa, and now to a festival!  Having a jacket or some kind of extra layer is key to staying comfortable when at a festival all day.  You never know when some kind of crazy weather will kick in.  I keep mine tied around my waist, doubling as a cute accessory.  I just had to incorporate another vintage scarf into this look, this time I tied it around my neck.  I never travel without some kind of bag, its best to keep everything you need to survive the day (sunscreen, lip balm, money) in one place.  Who doesn’t love a sparkly pizza purse?! It doubles as the perfect photo prop!

LOOK THREE:

Festivals are a major workout so make sure your outfit is up for the job.  I am rocking my Skechers D’lites with some flirty ruffled socks.  These sneakers are great for running around from the stages to the food tents.  I love a simple piece I can throw on and wear all day, so I chose this vintage tennis dress to add the sporty vibe.  These floral sunnies are so much fun and the ideal way to spice up a sporty look.  This backpack is one that I DIYed myself, I added patches and pompons to create a bag perfect for me!  I have been taking this bag with me on all my vacation and festival adventures and it reminds me of many fun memories each time I carry it.
