As summer comes to a close, we’re wrapping up our series of great escapes with the gorgeous country of Ireland! We chose seven Irish cities and towns famous for their history, culture, character, sports and even shopping (perfect for grabbing another pair of Skechers). Read, explore, enjoy!
DUBLIN

The capital of Ireland is the country’s number one tourist destination. Dublin holds so many museums dedicated to Ireland’s history, not to mention it’s also the number one shopping destination with streets upon streets in the city centre and centres like Blanchardstown, Swords, Liffey Valley and Tallaght.
We recommend taking a trip to The National Museum of Ireland if you’re traveling to Dublin. You will learn all about Irish art, culture and natural history. You can also visit the Guinness Storehouse and the Jameson Distillery Bow St. in Dublin to get a true taste of Ireland! And you have to try the fish and chips at the Brazen Head–Ireland’s oldest pub established in 1198.
If you’re not into history or shopping, take a bus out to Dublin Zoo, the largest zoo in Ireland! It’s situated right next to Áras an Uachtaráin, the residence and working headquarters of the Irish President. If you’re lucky, you might even see Michael D. Higgins!
WATERFORD

Take a walk along The Quay River in Waterford (part of the River Suir) and stop off on Broad Street to do a little shopping along your way. The entire city is built on the south bank of the river and the views are great for a few Instagram moments!
After your walk along The Quay, stop off at Waterford Crystal! Waterford Crystal has been around since 1783. You can take a factory tour, watch crystal production, visit their retail store, and, of course, enjoy a nice cup of coffee!
DUNDALK
Dundalk is one for you soccer fanatics! Dundalk FC has won the SSE Airtricity, Premier League for the third season in a row! With matches every other week, we would certainly recommend attending a game!
We’d also recommend taking a trip to Cooley Whiskey Visitor Centre located in Martin’s Bar on the main Dundalk to Carlingford Road. There are whiskey tours and tasting events, but make sure you pre-book!
BELFAST

Skechers Hi-Lites in front of the Titanic exhibit
If you’re taking a trip to Belfast, you must visit the Titanic exhibition! You can check out the shipyard and explore underwater to uncover the true legend of the Titanic in the city where the majestic ship was built and set sail.
You can also visit the Ulster Museum in Belfast to view some of the art, furnishings and costumes of the Renaissance times.
For a true taste of Ireland, take a trip to St. Georges Market on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. It was built in the 1800’s and is one of Belfast’s oldest attractions.
CORK

There is lots to see and do in Cork, whether you want to visit the Blackrock Observatory, walk through The English Market (Queen Elizabeth visited on her trip here a few years ago), take a tour of the Cork Women’s Gaol (a former women’s prison), or see the Jameson Distillery in Midleton. Take a trip out to one of Ireland’s top tourist destinations, Blarney Castle where you can kiss The Blarney Stone and receive the Irish “gift of the gab.” To take in all of Cork, we would definitely recommend taking the Hop-on Hop-off bus tour.
If sightseeing isn’t your thing, don’t worry! Cork is great for shopping and is full of delicious restaurants and cafes. As Cork is so diverse, you could end up anywhere, so we recommend taking a pair of Skechers with memory foam to keep you going through the day!
CRAIGAVON
Craigavon is located in Armagh in the north of Ireland. Craigavon refers to the space between two towns. The town is built between two man-made lakes. The lakes are surrounded by woodland with walking trails. There is also a water sports centre, petting zoo, golf course and ski slope in the area.
ATHLONE

Athlone in Westmeath is a town on the River Shannon near the south shore of Lough Ree in Ireland. It has the second highest population in the midlands.
There are many hidden gems in Athlone, but we recommend visiting Athlone Castle and Peter & Paul’s Church and taking a walk along the river Shannon.
Athlone Castle is over 5000 years old and is located on the banks of the Shannon. During the summer, it is open seven days a week and is worth the trip.
There is so much to do in Ireland with 32 counties in Ireland and Northern Ireland. And we’ve only mentioned seven, so plan a trip and visit all 32 – we’d recommend making a summer out of it! And if you need comfortable shoes on your adventure, we actually have 14 Skechers stores open in Ireland so it’s easy to find the perfect pair as you travel!
